So yes, I was lathering up my hair and I had a lightning strike in the noggin moment. There has been this question about a character that I have been asking myself for at least a month. I am a HAVE TO KNOW type and sometimes on the dramatic side.
I know I drove my family nutty. They would ask how my day went, and I would respond with I need to know why my character can see Grim Reapers! I know she likes to dress like a biker chick, I know why she took a spastic fit during Science, but why can she see DEATH! Just a little creepy. Thanks to Suave I KNOW, I really know. The sad part is my subconscious knew all along because I sprinkled bits and pieces throughout my MS. It was just my brain catching up with what I already knew. Sigh....
So tell me your lightning strike moment.
LOL...so funny! Inspiration always come to me in the shower. I'm struggling with a point and then whammo! The solutions just shows up.

It's amazing how our brain paves the way for us sometimes, isn't it? Lots of times I've gone back to revise a story and there are things hiding that I didn't even notice I wrote.

Okay, I love the Suave analogy! Here's another shower moment. I'm in the shower, and out of nowhere realize I'm going to kill off one of my characters (this will happen in the Vision series) - and...I start crying.

ReplyDeleteI remember one time, I had a Monster (the energy drink) for the first time. I may of ended up drinking too much and had a crazy headache for a week. But it brought insane strokes of genius. ;D

ReplyDeleteI'm prone to getting strokes of inspiration and genius in the shower, or just as I'm falling asleep. I used to try and write it down on the shower screen, get out and leave the water running so the steam would stay while I went and got pen and paper.
My lightning strike moment came when my beta reader said my writing reminded him of Thundarr the Barbarian. At that moment, I knew how corny it was and threw it out.
ReplyDeleteI get inspiration driving my car. I love it when I can't figure something out and WHAM. The answer and the trail of breadcrumbs through my WIP become clear. Kind of a relief.
ReplyDeleteSense of smell is a wonderful thing. Sounds like you just need to relax and let the answer come to you. So cool that tidbits were already in the script.
ReplyDeleteMy inspiration usually hits after a long, exhausting day right when I drift to sleep. I keep a notebook on my nightstand and have learned to write in the dark. I'm tempted to make a reference to an old Seinfeld episode, but not sure if anyone other than me remembers it.
Inspiration is a funny thing, isn't it? Just comes at us at odd moments so we have to be prepared! Dropping by for the Crusades! Have a nice day!!!

ReplyDeleteI had this idiot who was mad because his girlfriend was hidding a secret, but I had no idea what the secret was. I wrote out her scene, just for fun... well honestly I couldn't take it anymore I HAD to know.
When she told me her secret, two lines into the scene I was blown away! I had no idea. I reread the MS, and sure enough the clues were everywhere. Man, that's magic. I felt like a genius on crack.
Welcome to the crusade, glad to see I'm not alone, everyone I told that story too thought I was a moron. LOL. Fun times.

ReplyDeleteI like that you call them lightning strike moments. I refer to them as the "Duh, you idiot" moments myself. They happen all the time. It's amazing the stuff our mind knows and waits until the last minute to tell us.

You know, most of my best thinking is done in the shower, and usually after my wife tells me what I wrote that morning didn't work. I stay in there until I figure out how to fix it.
