In the Background of a Writers Life—On Blogging

I have no problem embarrassing myself telling you some of the crap things I used to do blogging. Really, It’s okay and I love my blogger buddies, so entertaining you is my top priority *grins*.

So, I really sucked when I first started blogging—I’m a work in progress.

I actually used to shout out my peeps in a Lady Ga Ga type way. Thank goodness Bloggerville intervened and someone did a blog post on what NOT to blog about. Now, I make it more subtle and if I write in tiny print no one will really notice, right? Can you see this now? Good you can't see it! Thank you Elana Johnson for showing me the ropes! Click here for her blog posts on building a better blog.

I once wrote a ballard from Mr. Schuester. If you dare to go back and read my pathetic posts. I apologize in advance for the missing pictures. It is Google+ fault.
I also debated having a contest on how many spelling errors followers could find in one post. Yeah, I now edit.
But, I blogged and  I blogged some more. I visited blogs and read a lot of blogs and sooner than later it sunk in.
You can do it. Keep working at it and blog happy!
What crazy things have you done or learned from blogging?

I LOVE your new look here! I do the tiny print sometimes too, it's fun and draws people in. I've done a lot of stupid things with blogging, um, can't think of any now tho LOL.

I love blogging, but ahem-- confession time-- I don't spend much time thinking about it or my posts. It's just blah, blah, blah. Oh this has occurred to me, I'll shove it up on Blogger.

So, I probably do lots of things wrong. but it's still fun to connect with you guys.

I've gotten better over time, I think. I have a better idea what to blog about, and what isn't interesting to anybody but myself.

I was a rebel. I was never going to have a blog--what with all my friends putting up their "family" blogs and showing off their too-cute kids and crazy stories... Guess that was just the wrong type of blog for me. =)

Then I beta read my first book--across country. What a schnazy forum! Since then I've been trying to figure out what the heck I was thinking, because no, I still am not sure I want a blog most days. I LOVE all the awesome peeps I've met through it (present company included), but my goodness, where did the last hour of my life go?

lol! I think we've all done dumb things in the beginning! I started out by following a bunch of mom blogs, and guess what? I don't even go to them anymore and they never come to me. Why I didn't look for writing blogs in the first place is beyond me!

There's lots to learn in the world of blogging and it takes TIME to build a following.

Love your new look!

I'm guessing i don't even know how many stupid things I've done and that's probably a good thing :)

I've found it pays to just be yourself and be genuine. People feel like they get to know who you really are, and that's fun!

Stupid things? Yeah, I do enough of those in a single day that I've stopped counting for fear of permanent self-esteem-damage. =) I still have no idea what I do wrong in blogging. Probably not having enough time. Yup. That's a big one.

I have no idea what you just said. What is a Lady Gaga shout out? What is a ballard from Mr. Schuester? How do you make tiny print in Wordpress? Why are you talking about Easter candy? I actually know what a spelling error is. Thankfully I don't see too many of them on blogs.

I guess the crazy thing I did at first was to assume no one was reading, and to write more like a diary for myself, except online. It was kind of thrilling, actually. Then some crazy stalker lady started harassing me, and I wised up quick. Strangers find you. Don't post what you don't want the world to know.

Then after that I didn't really write with a purpose, and got no visitors. Once I clarified what the purpose of my blog was -- to connect with others over the Human Experience -- then I started writing a lot better and my readership increased.

And now, I hold myself to a higher standard, which makes me happy and can't help but continually improve my writing.
